Open letter to Rueben Tarei

To Reuben Tarei of no fixed abode. Raised in Te Teko, schooled at Rotorua Boys High.
Age 25 as of June 2013.

Reuben, you rented a room at my place of residence in Tauranga, New Zealand from Thursday 16th May 2013 through until Thursday 13 June 2013.
During this time you paid no rent or bond.
I had arranged to meet you at 9:30am on Thursday 13 June 2013 to go to the bank so that you could get cash out to pay outstanding rent.
You basically did a runner at 9:00am on Thursday 13 June 2013.

The night before your runner, you paid me $50 cash and set up a bank transfer for $315.00 from an account with $3.15¢ in it.
Hence, on June 14th, $3.15¢ was also paid to me.

So in total you have paid $53.15.

For three weeks and 1 days rent you owe $330
For 3 weeks power you owe approx $44
For 3 weeks phone and internet you owe $24

So you owe a total of $398, but have paid $53.15, so you still have a total of $344.85 outstanding which you should pay immediately.

<EDIT 23rd June 2013> Reuben also racked up $140.83 in mobile phone calls.(Sheesh!)
So in total you owe me $485.68 which you should pay immediately.

Reuben is basically a con man in my opinion. He came across as very friendly and nice.
He had lots of excuses and reasons for why he was having trouble paying rent.
I was amazed at the speed with which he was able to make up seemingly plausible excuses and lies.

I went to his place of work, a cafe (he claimed to be a sous chef) on the morning of Friday 14th June 2013 to hand him a trespass notice and a summary of monies owing.
He was not at work.
I talked with his employers and they stated that Reuben was in "trouble" at his place of work and they doubted strongly that they would ever see him again.

I did a Google search of his name and came up with almost nothing, so I thought I would add this little gem to the internet to help out people who have dealings with Reuben Tarei in the future.
Reuben Tarei was a bad tenant.

The place Reuben stayed at prior to moving in with me, he stayed at for just two weeks.
I strongly suspect, but cannot say for sure, that the reason for his short two week stay was due to his non-payment of any rent or bond.
Reuben lived out of two suitcases. He owned a mobile phone and some clothing. That is all he owned as far as I could tell.
He left behind 3 pairs of jeans, 2 bed  sheets and a pair of gumboots. I gave these to the Salvation Army.
Reuben claimed to have 2 children to 2 different women based in Rotorua. I have no idea if this is true or not.
Reuben is currently enrolled in a domestic violence program. I assume this has been made compulsory for him by the Family Court system for obvious reasons.

As far as I am aware, (apart from rent, power and internet/phone) Reuben did not steal or damage anything else at my place of residence.

I have entered the name Reuben Tarei into the database at http://www.tenancybureau.com as a bad tenant.
